No Surprises: Sham Investigation Exonerates Hillary Clinton of Benghazi Wrong Doing

Republicans spent over $7 million over the course of two plus years in a blatant attempt to politicize the tragedy and destroy Hillary Clinton, then inadvertently exonerated her due to there being zero evidence of culpability.

Trey Gowdy: Conspiracy Theorist in Chief.

Well that was a complete waste of time and tax payer's money. From the New York Times:

Ending one of the longest, costliest and most bitterly partisan congressional investigations in history, the House Select Committee on Benghazi issued its final report on Tuesday, finding no new evidence of culpability or wrongdoing by Hillary Clinton in the 2012 attacks in Libya that left four Americans dead.

The 800-page report, however, included some new details about the night of the attacks, and the context in which it occurred, and it delivered a broad rebuke of government agencies like the Defense Department, the Central Intelligence Agency and the State Department — and the officials who led them — for failing to grasp the acute security risks in the Libyan city, and especially for maintaining outposts in Benghazi that they could not protect.

In other words, Republicans spent over $7 million over the course of two plus years in a blatant attempt to politicize the tragedy and destroy Hillary Clinton, then inadvertently exonerated her due to there being zero evidence of culpability.

The report highlights what everyone already knew -- that there were a series of bureaucratic and organizational errors that prevented a military response to the attacks on the compound. Hillary Clinton already accepted this and took responsibility in the wake of the tragedy, but Republicans decided to turn it into a public witch hunt as they have historically done with the Democratic nominee for president.

As is always the case with Republican fueled conspiracy theories, they turn out to be complete bullshit. This time, the public actually paid for it, so if there are any recriminations for the events at Benghazi, they should be directed at committee leader Trey Gowdy -- a man who shamelessly used the deaths of American citizens to further his political ambitions.

Because where was Trey Gowdy after the deadly attacks on US consulates and embassies during George W. Bush's presidency?

That's right, nowhere.
