Ted Cruz: Transgender Citizens are the Same as Trump Dressing Up Like Hillary

Those of us who aren't hopelessly shrink-wrapped inside the cult-like Fox News bubble know that being transgender isn't the same nor as simplistic as merely dressing up in the drag of the opposite sex.

Those of us who aren't hopelessly shrink-wrapped inside the cult-like Fox News bubble know that being transgender isn't the same nor as simplistic as merely dressing up in the drag of the opposite sex.

Three things.

First, Republicans continue to crap their cages over the completely nonexistent problem of men exploiting non-discrimination laws in order to disguise themselves as transgender women so they can enter females-only public restrooms and spy on young girls.

Second, they're freaking out even though such behavior remains illegal and will always be illegal.

Third, if no one thought to exploit non-discrimination laws to do this, and based on the stats, no one has, then Republicans have thoroughly injected the concept into the heads of weirdos and pervs from coast to coast. Thanks, Republicans. Good job coming up with loopholes for child molesters. Maybe for an encore, you can think up ways for terrorists to buy military-style assault rifles -- oh wait, they already did that.

Speaking of which, an anti-LGBT Republican lawyer, and president of the theocratic Liberty Counsel, tweeted today that she's planning on bringing a Glock into the restroom with her as protection.

David Ferguson at RawStory noted: "Anita Staver is married to Mat Staver, head of the legal team that defended Kentucky’s outspoken anti-marriage equality county clerk Kim Davis in her effort to deny same-sex couples the right to marry."

Good people. By all means, why don't we up the ante on this issue by adding firearms into the mix. Despite the GOP's confusing and ignorance over the vast differences between innocent transgender citizens and guilty-as-hell child molesters, it sounds like they're opening the possibility for open-season on transgender people in bathrooms -- as well as, perhaps, somewhat masculine-looking women who happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

This brings us to Ted Cruz, who continues to demagogue the issue. Most recently, Cruz released a video attacking Donald Trump's support for non-discrimination laws. This week, Cruz joked that transgender people are simply men dressing up like women.

IndyStar reported (via Mediaite):

“It doesn’t make any sense at all to let grown adult men, strangers, to be alone in bathrooms with little girls,” Cruz said. “…If Donald Trump dresses up as Hillary Clinton, he still can’t use the little girls’ restroom!”

In a bizarre way, Ted Cruz is kind of half-right. No, Trump can't dress up like Hillary and enter a "little girls' restroom." That's still quite forbidden, even in the 225 cities where non-discrimination laws exist. However, if Trump realized that he's a woman trapped inside an orange xenophobe's body and began to identify as a woman, while beginning all of the irreversible hormone and surgical changes commensurate with becoming the woman he always was, then fine. But a Hillary Clinton costume? Utterly bigoted to transgender people everywhere.

Those of us who aren't hopelessly shrink-wrapped inside the cult-like Fox News bubble know that being transgender isn't the same nor as simplistic as merely dressing up in the drag of the opposite sex. We shouldn't have to spell this out. But when half the American population thinks science and biology are left-wing conspiracies, we have no choice but to repeat these incontrovertible facts.

Ted Cruz, along with Anita Staver, for that matter, have staked out the lowest ground possible on this issue, and here's to hoping that future historians will remember them accordingly. So, while they're smiling and joking about LGBT rights today, their posterity won't be.
