One would think that in the wake of a serious tragedy caused by religious fundamentalism, Republican candidates would wait at least a week or so before promoting batshit crazy religious gimmicks designed to reel in evangelist voters.
But no, presidential no-hoper John Kasich announced his new proposal to create a new government agency to push Judeo-Christian values to four heathen regions of the world, namely China, Iran, Russia and the Middle East. Speaking to NBC News Kasich said:
We need to beam messages around the world about the freedoms Americans enjoy...It means freedom, it means opportunity, it means respect for women, it means freedom to gather, it means so many things.
Here's the interview:
Of course Kasich does his best to tone down the religious aspect of his new idea by talking about freedom and women's rights etc, but it reeks of the Bush era neo-conservatism and boorish evangelism of hybrid Capitalist-Christianism that failed spectacularly when spread to Iraq. Kasich genuinely seems not to understand that the rest of the world is about as interested in adopting this vacuous philosophy as Americans are in converting to Islam and adopting socialism. It simply isn't going to happen, and Kasich has unwittingly provided voters another huge reason to keep Republicans as far away from the White House as humanly possible.
