Hillary Clinton Ad Targets The Benghazi Gaffe That Probably Handed Her the Presidency

There were two things that happened in the past week or so that probably handed Hillary Clinton the presidency. The first was the resignation of Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH), who was the last Trojan-thin barrier between House Republicans and their insane plans to shut down/default the government over whatever vaginae have done to offend them this week. The other came courtesy of Boehner's once-likely replacement, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who boasted to Sean Hannity that the House GOP's Bemghazi boner was all about bringing Hillary Clinton's poll numbers down:

"Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping."

On Tuesday, the Hillary Clinton campaign rolled out a new ad starring McCarthy, and his admission:

Audio VO: The Republicans finally admit it.

Audio Andrea Mitchell: Republican Kevin McCarthy saying the committee investigating Benghazi and Clinton’s emails was created to destroy her candidacy.

Audio Kevin McCarthy: Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee. What are her numbers today?

Audio VO: The Republicans have spent millions attacking Hillary because she’s fighting for everything they oppose…

AUDIO VO: … from affordable health care…

AUDIO VO: … to equal pay, she’ll never stop fighting for you and the Republicans know it.

SUPER: Ensuring equal pay for women

HRC: I’m Hillary Clinton and I approve this message.

Boom!

This is just the beginning of the pain for Republicans, because not only has the "objective" media unanimously adopted the correct interpretation of McCarthy's gaffe and rejected his attempts to unspin it, this ad is a mere amuse bouche to the buffet of shit sandwiches Hillary is going to hand that committee when she testifies later this month. McCarthy has taken an issue that was already weak for them, Bemghazi, and turned it into an absolute liability, along with the email issue that they had succeeded in getting the media to play along with.

If it makes Republicans feel any better, this was probably always destined to happen. Prior to the Hannity gaffe that blew up in his face, McCarthy had already taken several shots at connecting Benghazi to Hillary's poll numbers, in an effort to gin up a select committee on Planned Parenthood. First, there was this appearance, the day before, on Special Report:

https://youtu.be/R4yb-3fs9Rc

"You're going to see an enrollment correction, but more importantly, you're going to see a select committee. When people in this country ask why Hillary's numbers have dropped, because people don't trust her. Why don't they trust her? Because what the select committee in Benghazi found out she was doing."

Then, the following morning, McCarthy made the same case to Fox and Friends:

https://youtu.be/VNa6FKsLuhU

"And when we look at Hillary Clinton's numbers today, America says they distrust her. Why? Because they found out the truth about her. And the only way they found that truth about it was Benghazi select committee dug in to it and was be able to get the facts."

That's not a typo, he really said "was be able."

The only difference between those appearances and the Hannity is that McCarthy remembered to throw in fig leaves about "facts." The message is clearly the same: the goal was always to damage Hillary's standing in the polls.
