Everyone Needs to Chill The F*ck Out About The Pope Meeting Kim Davis

The Pope is a homophobe. He's also a deeply kind man committed to helping the most vulnerable. He has a contradictory, complex personality that does not fit neatly into any one category. In other words, he is a flawed human being, just like you.

Pope Francis

So the 'Cool Pope' met with raving homophobe Kim Davis in a secret meeting that the Vatican has now confirmed. You will remember that Ms. Davis spent five days in jail for disobeying a federal court order to issue marriage licenses to gay couples in Rowan County, Kentucky. Here's how the New York Times reported on the clandestine meeting:

On Tuesday night, her[Davis's] lawyer, Mathew D. Staver, said that Ms. Davis and her husband, Joe, were sneaked into the Vatican Embassy by car on Thursday afternoon. Francis gave her rosaries and told her to “stay strong,” the lawyer said. The couple met for about 15 minutes with the pope, who was accompanied by security guards, aides and photographers.

Naturally, the liberal social media-o-sphere has gone completely nuts over this with progressives threatening to remove El Papa from their profiles and banish him from the annals of approved progressive icons for eternity. Here is a brief selection from a rapidly expanding twitter rampage:

Firstly, the Pope has always been against gay marriage. He is against abortions too, and believes Jesus Christ was literally born of a virgin and walked on water. He is after all the Pope, and anyone even vaguely familiar with the tenants of the Catholic Church should be well aware of this.

Secondly, everyone need to chill the fuck out. Pope Francis is not a perfect human being, especially when viewed through the lens of modern progressivism. He is deeply conservative and backwards on many social issues, but he is also a huge advocate for the poor, dedicated to stopping global warming, pro peace, anti violence, and by all accounts, an incredibly humble person.  He met with another anti gay marriage activist for 15 minutes and everyone appears to have lost their minds. Whether you agree with Davis or not, going to jail for not issuing a marriage license is a pretty extreme punishment, and the situation could have been handled better (she could have been fired, or just given something else to do).

This type of narcissistic petulance is becoming so prevalent in liberal circles that it is amazing anyone makes the grade. Obama has a bad drone policy, therefore he is a war criminal and should be impeached. Politicians are corrupt, therefore don't vote or participate in the electoral system. It's mindless outrage directed at anyone who dares deviate from the scripture as laid out by the Salon.coms and Glenn Greenwalds of this world, and it's getting tiring as hell.
