You're not going to believe this, but Roseanne Barr is still fucking nuts. Apparently that's not the sort of thing you rethink as you get older and become less culturally relevant.
A couple of weeks back, the student government at the University of California Davis voted in favor of a resolution that would stop the University of California school system from investing in companies that reportedly profit from the ongoing Israeli occupation. The vote was part of a movement that's been happening on campuses all across the country, but certainly in California, where both state and private universities are staging successful votes like the one that took place at U.C. Davis. As of the Davis decision, seven out of nine schools in the U.C. system have voted to divest. The companies targeted include Caterpillar, G4S, Veolia Environment and Raytheon; all allegedly benefit from, as some students calls it, the "Israeli sponsored Apartheid."
Regardless of your opinion of the vote, the nobility or naïveté of the student movement behind it, or even the Israeli occupation itself, you'll probably agree that the best way to respond to what happened at U.C. Davis is not to suggest that everybody at the school except the Jews there die in a nuclear attack. Then again, you're probably not a goddamn lunatic, which means you're probably not Roseanne Barr.
Now under normal circumstances, being that Roseanne came to national acclaim as a pretty damn good comic, we could probably write this off as a crass joke. But these aren't normal circumstances, being that Roseanne has gone on to become nothing more than a raving pseudo-libertarian ideologue who traffics in ridiculous paranoid conspiracy theories of the Alex Jones and Lyndon LaRouche variety. She believes in horseshit like chemtrails; she says the Illuminati's MK Ultra mind control has a complete lock on Hollywood; and of course she thinks 9/11 and the Boston Marathon bombing were inside jobs, government-sponsored false flag attacks. She regularly cites as a source for her outlandish claims the "investigative" work of batshit pretend journalist Wayne Madsen, the crackpot who remains convinced President Obama is secretly gay. She does all of this while often complaining about the patriarchy and in defense of women's issues -- she did so, amusingly, on Abby Martin's show on RT -- putting her directly at the center of that odd place where the left and right now come together and share a belief in the same ridiculous nonsense.
If you're a regular reader of this site you know that a little over a year ago we wrote about how Roseanne posted a "Personal Letter To Congress" on her website which made one hell of a claim: that Congress is currently being spied on by the NSA and the information gathered is used by President Obama to blackmail legislators into doing his bidding. Because, as you know, Congress does whatever Obama tells it to. This earned us an admittedly entertaining online scolding from her.
Anyway, you get the picture. Roseanne going off on social media and making comments about nuking U.C. Davis because she believes anti-semites have taken over the place and, I don't know, instituted Sharia law, is honestly small potatoes. Her Twitter feed is regularly one long stream of that kind of thing. Go there any time of the day or night and it's like being bukkaked with crazy. Damn shame too. She used to be pretty brilliant.
