Should these people be stripped of their voter registrations?

Those of you who've been following The Daily Banter and, in particular, the podcast I co-host with Chez Pazienza, are probably familiar with the name Dan Bidondi. He's the hairless, semi-literate stooge from the ranks of Alex Jones' InfoWars.com conspiracy theory empire whose claim to fame has been to troll law enforcement press conferences in the wake of tragedies like Sandy Hook, the Navy Yard and the Boston Marathon bombing, shouting "false flag!" at various officials before being escorted away.

This year, Bidondi ran as an independent candidate for the Rhode Island State Senate from District 16. Terrifying, maybe. Hilarious, absolutely.

Yes, the man who famously mispronounces "Netanyahu" as "Nyatinhoo" lost his campaign yesterday against Democratic incumbent State Senator Elizabeth Crowley by a margin of 86 percent to 14 percent.

On one hand, thank goodness. On the other hand, how the hell did this unstable talking monkey get 14 percent of the vote? Put another way: who the hell are the 375 people who thought he'd make an excellent state legislator? A third question: should these people be stripped of their voter registrations? I'm kidding about that last thing. Maybe.

If Dan Bidondi can win 375 votes in spite of the fact that he thinks the Sandy Hook massacre was staged by the U.S. government while also turning serious news conferences into freak shows, then it's no wonder how so many doofuses and weirdos can actually make it to Congress. Voters are obviously capable of kneejerking their way to casting ballots for just about anyone, regardless of the candidate's ability to speak or grasp reality. Even if you badly misspell your campaign announcement, you can cajole a few people to vote for you.

By the way, it's illegal to photograph your ballot in Rhode Island.
