Stephen Colbert Is Really Pissing Off Bill O'Reilly, And It's Awesome

It's always entertaining to observe an egomaniac gasbag, who takes himself way too seriously, respond to jokes about his childish ideas.

Stephen Colbert has been relentless against "Papa Bear" Bill O'Reilly, most recently regarding the Fox News star's ludicrous idea for a 25,000-member mercenary army to fight Islamic jihad. The other night, Colbert compared O'Reilly's mercenary army to something a 4th-grader would doodle inside a notebook, completely with ninjas wielding nunchucks that shoot lasers.

Hilarious and spot on. But not as hilarious as O'Reilly's too-serious response the following night.

O'Reilly attacked Colbert as an effete liberal who would rather run away from terrorists than to fight them. He also said that Colbert has "no bleeping clue how to fight the jihad," as if Colbert should be completely up-to-snuff on military tactics and desert warfare -- and then there's O'Reilly, who's suggesting a solution that the U.S. has never once seriously entertained. Of course Colbert's segment had nothing to do with running away or surrendering or any of the crap O'Reilly said, but rather to illustrate how ridiculous O'Reilly's plan was, including, by the way, clips from interventionist conservatives who also thought the idea was stupid.

It's always entertaining to observe an egomaniac gasbag, who takes himself way too seriously, respond to jokes about his childish ideas. And make no mistake, the mercenary army thing is not only childish but cartoonishly bad. He seems fixated on "well-paid" by the way, which is somehow supposed to sweeten the deal, even though it underscores how underpaid our actual troops happen to be.

Get a backbone, O'Reilly.
