And we have a winner -- or loser, depending on how you look at it.

A New Mexico Republican candidate for Senate, Allen Weh, released the following ad today, becoming the first video blast of the 2014 campaign to exploit last week's beheading of American journalist James Foley. Specifically, Weh used a still image of the ISIS terrorist who sawed Foley's head off in a montage followed by a fist-bumping photo of President Obama.

So, yes, Mr. Weh is using the gruesome terrorist death of an American journalist in order to get elected -- and he's blaming the turmoil in the Middle East, including Foley's murder, on the president and his vacation days. For the record, by this point in his presidency, and during two wars of his own choosing, President Bush had spent 407 days on vacation, not including 341 days at Camp David. Meanwhile, Obama has spent 125 days on vacation and 85 days at Camp David. The selective memory and rank hypocrisy is breathtaking.

But the use of Foley/ISIS imagery is arguably worse than using 9/11 video ten years ago, given how the Foley news was just last week. Worse yet, Weh is trailing Sen. Tom Udall (D-NM) by more than 15 points, you'd think the least he could do is to lose with a little class. Instead, he's losing twice: once in the polls, and again as a human being.
