Abby Martin Responds to The Daily Banter: “I Don’t Think 9/11 Was an Inside Job”

FILED TO: Media and Entertainment

In response to Chez Pazienza’s piece on RT journalist Abby Martin being a 9/11 Truther, Martin got back to The Daily Banter with the following statement:

“I stand by the fact that we were lied to about 9/11, which even the commission members themselves agree with. However I don’t believe it was an inside job and it’s embarrassing to see people call themselves journalists using a six year old video to smear me and conflate statements I made at a rally with my risking my job to speak out about Crimea.”

While Martin is a vehement critic of the US government and its foreign policy, in recent years she has moved away from the more extreme elements of the 9/11 truth movement. Here she is talking about conspiracy theories and how dangerous they can be back in March of 2013:

Yeah, right, it was islamists who sent that anthrax around, blew up the twin Towers (leaving 1,120 people unaccounted for tot his day) and imploded WTC 7 at free fall. Keep Dreaming!
*Read Graeme MacQueen’s book THE 22001 ANTHRAX DECEPTION:; THE CASE FOR DOMESTIC CONSPIRACY – and Kevin Ryan;s book ANOTHER NINETEEN: INVESTIGATING LEGITIMATE 9/11 SUSPECTS. The large body of mutually supportive facts speaks for themselves. There is no ambiguity in what they indicate.

i am neither surprised nor disappointed that she is backing down from her earlier point of view about 911. You don’t do “three years of research” on something, essentially cutting your journalistic teeth, then suddenly blame it on the folly of youth, and say you can’t ‘hold me accountable for something i said six years ago. Unless, of course, you are being groomed. The more i listen to her, the more i don’t trust her. Just another talking head being used by RT to make headway into the Washington DC media circus. What i find curious is how frequently she mispronounces common American words like she learned English as her second language. I know Wikipedia says otherwise, but, i would like to meet her parents and the kids she went to grade school with. Simply put, she has a standard American east coast accent, but, according to Wikipedia, she lived and schooled on the west coast all her life till going to work for the Kerry campaign. Also, you’ll notice that she mostly stays away from anything that would paint Russia in a bad light, like its massive undersea drilling for arctic oil and the huge environmental impact and potential disaster that folly shall ensure. RT is already mounting and riding new recruits to bring its message to the world. Yeah, the United States sucks.Wow. I didn’t know that.

  • American Terrorist

Anymore, a person’s stance on 9/11 is a litmus test for trust, critical thinking skills, media literacy and scientific acuity. Clearly, Abby Martin has failed this litmus test.

  • Cynical

9/11 was a false flag inside job and the real terrorists are still at large and are busy planning the pretext for the next war. Visit and awaken.

The majority of Americans are imbeciles and have ZERO critical thinking skills because their brains are picked with Rx drugs, illegal drugs, the crappiest Grade 1-12 education system on earth and GMO crap food,.

    • truthforallnow

I’m an American and couldn’t agree with you more! This country is over loaded with ignorant sheep who would rather spew stupid rants without ever doing any real research. Even if they did they still cannot process the truth. The term is “cognitive dissonance.” Here is a good 15 minute video of PHD psychologists etc. explaining:

  • Sandra Ellen Webber

All roads lead to Tel Aviv who controls USA Congress and finance via proxies. There is plenty of evidence Israel was behind 911. The Master of Deceit and Manipulation and Exploitation.

  • Jacob Solace

The level of deliberate ignorance and shameless apathy, even among the so-called spiritual types and the so-called artists, is mindboggling.

Study, study, study. Look, Listen and Learn BEFORE you respond.

There is so much misinformation and disinformation put out by the corporate media.

Speak to the facts. If you have evidence to the contrary, then bring it forward for all to see so that we can learn together.

Sometimes people hold a core belief that is very strong. When they are presented with evidence that works against that belief, the new evidence cannot be accepted.

It would create a feeling that is extremely uncomfortable, called cognitive dissonance.

And because it is so important to protect the core belief, they will rationalize, ignore and even deny anything that doesn’t fit in with the core belief.

  • David Turnipseed

is plenty – loads – of evidence of 9/11 being an “inside job”. Its
troubling to hear you say at 1:23 “without any real evidence”. Now come

Don’t run from the 9/11 Truth Abby! That’s where your support base CAME from! It was absolutely an Inside Job, you know it was, and do not let these idiots make you afraid to speak the truth!

    • truthforallnow

This shit is so obvious to those who are even just a little aware. Sadly the world is filled with idiots who are wallowing in denial…too scary to look at the truth even when it’s right under their little sheeple noses.

  • HayesOose

Haw, all the Greenwald hate, gallons of slobber, *no substance.*

Greenwald’s story on Abby described simply in the space of a few sentences what she did, went on several paragraphs illustrating the hypocrisy of U.S. media and government leadership, from Kerry’s cringe worthy “You just don’t in the 21st Century behave in 19th Century fashion by invading another country on completely trumped-up pretext,” to the treatment shown to MSNBC and NBC’s Phil Donahue and Peter Arnett in response to their stance in opposition to the Iraq invasion.

Here? It’s just dumb-assed “Abby Martin and Glenn Greenwald think they are so hot but they are *so* not!” lameness.

Why are people like her, Greenwald, Scahill etc. such rage-a-holics?

  • Jeremy Rys

Not everything is a conspiracy… But 9/11 definitely was, no matter what way you slice it. The problem is that the body of 9/11 evidence is so massive, complex, and filled with internet BS and moonbat theories, that the average person cannot possibly be expected to make sense of it, or make informed opinions about what really happened without first doing an exhausting amount of research, that sadly most people are afraid to dig into or do because they are too afraid of the what they might find, and they also do “critical thinking” by asking themselves “what will my peers think? If I embrace this as truth?” rather than thinking for themselves evaluating the evidence logically.

    • nerdnam

    • Phillip Roth

Geoengineering is also a conspiracy. You should look into it.

  • Keith Kampschaefer

RT News has been, and was created as CONTROLLED OPPOSITION. Even the subtle underlying message that we can get more “trustworthy” news from a “Russian” (Russia Today) news source is a brainwashing, degradation of America. There’s not a doubt in my mind that RT has strings that lead to the same “handlers” as ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX.

  • Orangutan.

Thomas H. Kean, Chairman of the 9/11 Commission: “FAA and NORAD officials advanced an account of 9/11 that was untrue… We, to this day, don’t know why NORAD told us what they told us… It was just so far from the truth.”

Lee Hamilton, Vice Chairman of the 9/11 Commission: “We got started late; We had a very short time frame… We did not have enough money… We had a lot of people strongly opposed to what we did. We had a lot of trouble getting access to documents and to
people… So there were all kinds of reasons we thought we were set up to fail.”

  • Fluorescent Grey

glad to see the daily banter at least reported the fact that both of the men heading the 9/11 commission spoke publicly not just once but repeatedly over the years about how the commission was setup by the Bush administration to fail. But apparently it means you’re a ‘lunatic’ if you think the bush administration had things to hide about 9/11 aka they lied about 9/11. Pretty clear cut

    • Peter James

      >>>>”But apparently it means you’re a ‘lunatic’ if you think the bush administration had things to hide about 9/11 aka they lied about 9/11. Pretty clear cut”

If you think the Bush administration was behind 9/11 as Abby Martin very clearly was before, or as she’s equivocating about now, then, yes, you most certainly are a lunatic.

The Bush administration most certainly did have things to lie about regarding 9/11:-

Like the fact that they had received numerous warnings from the intelligence community that such an attack was likely if not imminent and they did nothing about it.

But that’s a far cry from implying that they were outright behind it to the extent that it was planned and resourced by them.

Even the more plausible but still crazy suggestion that they knew the likelihood of it happening, and still “let it happen anyway” (as opposed to it being the function of severe incompetence) because they also knew the outcome would give them leverage to wage wars or expand Executive powers is still a stretch within the realms of logical coherence.

And nice try there with the word play going from they “had things to hide about 9/11” to using “aka” to go to “they lied about 9/11.”

2 Completely separate statements with completely different implications (denoting intent and malice), that almost have nothing to do with each other.
And none of those two word parsings you’re attempting is even remotely close to what Martin is receiving heat for.

      • Dan Bland

Peter James, be very scared…you’re surrounded by lunatics…and our number grow daily…..hide..hide now we lunatics are surrounding you.

Just like in Greenwaldworld we’re supposed to pretend that 2005 when he admitted to supporting Bush and the Iraq war was entirely an complete lifetime ago so much so that he never actually did it.

      At least n Greenwaldworld.

  • Christopher Foxx

    Starting at 1:33:

To me I think it’s much scarier to envision that one person on their own could just snap and do something and that a governmet safety net or other kind of support systems couldn’t help them. To me the idea that a someone could be acting alone and totally irrationaly is much scarier than the idea of like one government plot.

And it’s more complicated to imagine that someone, you know, your guest earlier said that the reasons for violence are so complicated, and they are, and I think that that makes it so much scarier because it means we have to think a lot harder before we come to any kind of solutions.

And she’s right. It *is* scary to think that a person could just snap or act irrationally and cause so much damage. Because If a person could just do that, if it can’t be forseen or prevented, then there is no way to protect yourself.

So it’s much more comforting to believe bad things happen for a reason, as part of someone’s plan. Because then, there is a way to explain it.

Which is why some folks just prefer to believe in conspiracies, despite any mountain of evidence or common sense against them. It’s less scary and, as she also notes, doesn’t require as much thinking. (Thinking is hard.)

It’s a shame that, based on what she goes on to say, that she really doesn’t seem to understand what she’s saying.

  • formerlywhatithink

This sounds an awful lot like “Don’t accuse me of saying what I said when I said what I said when I said it.” which is awfully close to “Not meant as a factual statement” and “Whoever quotes me is a liar.

    • Peter James

      >>>>””Don’t accuse me of saying what I said when I said what I said when I said it.” ”

That’s also the argument normally used by Glen Greenwald (or his supporters) when reminded of his support of the Bush, the Iraq war, and the institution of the Patriot Act or when reminded of the vile things he called the plaintiffs and victims in the case against white supremacist Mathew Hale whom he defended in court.

Not surprisingly, Glenn Greenwald is a big fan and supporter of Abby Martin (promoting the s hit out of her on twitter in recent days) with whom he belongs to the mutual admiration society.

      • truthforallnow

  • drspittle

First, I think you should have disclosed your personal friendship. Second, I am not troubled by her questioning of 9-11. People change and views evolve. Third, my problem with Abby is her apparent alignment with the anti government beliefs espoused by the John Birch Society (evils of flouridation, etc) along with the typical anti Obama crap spewed by the Snowald Circus.. She impresses me as a right wing libertarian, and that makes anything she does suspect and her views more objectionable.

    • Peter James

RT tends to attract a lot of anti-Obama, Greenwaldian-fans Libertarian types like the Abby Martins of the World or like Alyona Mynkvoski who used to work there but now works over at HuffPo and who’s mom was the Russian politician and former Olympic ice skater who recently took a lot of heat after lighting the Olympic flame when it was revealed that she had tweeted a racist picture of President and Michelle Obama.

Ben always seems to be having to put out the fires defending them here due to his friendships with them from RT, and which would seem like a full-time tough job considering the Libertarian Anti-Obama bent that these RT folks seem to have.

      • drspittle

Thank you for confirming my suspicions about her. I don’t trust the one that “quit”, either. I shall say no more. I don’t make it a practice to poop in a blog host’s sand box.

  • Gunnut2600

I’m not saying that President Obama is a Muslim born in Kenya, who is plotting to destroy America because he is a Marxists, just that other people are talking about it and he hasn’t come out directly and said it isn’t true.

Ops. I scratch that. I meant I am not saying the US government blew up the three buildings because Israel, WTO, something something, Bush lied…but I have questions. I am just asking questions.

    Am I journalist now?

    • Aaron Litz

Getting closer; just throw chemtrails in there somewhere and I think you’ve got it. ;)

    • Fluorescent Grey

nice reach there. Pretty interesting no one is addressing the fact that Abby said the commission members were lied to by the Bush administration, which is an indisputable fact.

      • Gunnut2600

Well Fluo…since its indisputable…feel free to link to it.

You want to know what the “conspiracy” is…in government work no one takes ownership of anything. Good or bad, you don’t want your name involved. When the attacked happen, a completely failure of communication, data and intelligence analysis, and situational awareness resulted in the deaths and the devastating effects on the US economy. Just like in Katrina, a slew of people should have been fired for 9-11. But in the US, its nearly impossible to get fired from government work. Coworkers covered each others asses.

That is completely different than implying that the US exploded three buildings to get the American people to support a war. All that takes is a Kenny Chesney album because Americans, like everyone else in the world, go to war for stupid shit.

  • repugnicant

Its an odd statement, such as something you would see from Greenwald (who was immediately praising Martin like a PR stunt) responding to something personally unfavorable: ‘Shut up, you fake ‘journalist’. Its not about me.. and I risked my job to speak out’.

Like most Greenwald initiated stop-the-presses exclusives, there was a lot more to this not initially included. The Huffington Post, who got it from Greenwald, made it sound like Martin was IN Russia, risking her freedom to stand up to Putin, like Pussy Riot. The following comments followed suit, with everyone worried for Martin’s life, that she was going to get ‘disappeared’. Not even close.

I couldn’t care less about Martin now. What bothers me most is that I’m told I’m supposed to care. She doesn’t deserve praise for anything. It all smells like a publicity stunt, to which Martin will end up at The Intercept with much ballyhoo from their PR staff.

    • Richard_thunderbay

Greenwald, made it sound like Martin was IN Russia, risking her freedom to stand up to Putin, like Pussy Riot.

This stunt reminds me a bit of that Ron Paul is more progressive than Obama nonsense he pulled back in 2012, except it was even more craven and stupid.

    • js hooper

Greenwald was actually using Martin (as he always does) to fend off attacks against himself and his own journalistic independence. He was also trying to use her as a tool to attack the American media who has (rightfully) been shredding Putin / Russia.

According to Greenwald (via twitter) the person we should really be attacking right now is President Obama (shocker). He’s actually defending the Republicans who are pimping Putin & trashing Obama.

      • villemar

Have the Greenwald talking points officially come out yet? Too many of his acolytes have been in a holding pattern. I know everything is Obama’s fault, just don’t know what the correct angle is yet to infinitely troll and parrot.

  • Badgerite

That’s admirable that she decided to speak against the Russian invasion of the Ukraine.
But where was she when they started attacking LGBT people in Russia? There are trends going on in Russia that have been going on for a long time. The re-emergence of the authoritarian Bear didn’t just happen overnight.

    • trgahan

Not to mention she stood up right after Putin had to stand down (militarily at least. The situation isn’t over by a long shot)….I know she could still face career repercussions, but that point should be made when a crisis of conscience shows up AFTER a possible near term result (ie. invasion by a “not Russian” Russian army force) is no longer a valid option.

  • CL Nicholson

Ben, normally I rock with you, but this chick is off the rails. Yes, she went after Alex Jones, but she still believes the government is hiding something about 9/11. That, officially makes her a lunatic.

The very definition of a 9/11 Truther is that for some bizarre reason, the official government report is hiding something – no matter what that something actually is. 9/11 is probably one of the most analyzed crimes in modern history – and like evolution, most reputable sources agree. The universal conclusion is that a couple of crazy dudes sneaked onto planes, hijacked and crashed said planes into the midtown Manhattan and the Pentagon. But somehow multiple studies by different independent bodies coming to the conclusion that 9/11 was really a crime committed by 19 crazy guys with Exacto knives means that their all in cohoots because…..something.

She doesn’t believe that wacko stuff that Alex Jones pimps to his audience – but she’s still nut job anti-government lunatic who just happen to say one smart thing.

    • Dan Bland

I think the government is lying about 9/11 and have tons of evidence.

      • truthforallnow

Duh right? Wait the Government wouldn’t lie to us would they? Iraq had WMD right…oh wait that was a lie. “The Gulf of Tonkin incident” hmm oh wait that was a huge lie before our involvement in the Vietnam war. Yes it was also what’s called a “false-flag” operation. Look it up braniac non-researchers who defend brain-dead sheep saying the Gov doesn’t lie about these things. Hmm I suppose hundreds of architects and engineers who have proven and shown the “nano-thermite all over the rubble is also just lunatics trying to open the minds of the brain-dead sheep as well? My God wake up and realize those who just comply with the lamestream story are the “nut-jobs.”

    • Louis David Jr.

So anyone that questions or disagrees with what our wonderful government tells us is the truth is a nutjob? What you smokin.

      • CL Nicholson

Untighten your tinfoil hat. I didn’t say to believe everything the government says. I’m saying once you have peer, reviewed objective data, you accept the supported hypothesis until new, peer-reviewed data is presented that contradicts current hypothesis.

Simply put, rather than accept the conclusions based upon data – you and folks like Abby Martin reject all data because its contrary to your bias.
