Jon Stewart reacted to new accusations that Chris Christie's office used Sandy aid as political leverage last night, slamming Christie for what he called "Some old-school New Jersey corruption". In the hilarious segment, Stewart also made fun of Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer who detailed her experiences with Christie's staff in her diary, and revealed some entries on MSNBC that included passages about how much she loved her husband.

Stewart also went after former governor of Virginia, Bob McDonnell for his indictment over alleged bribes that included a Ferrari, golf clubs, and bizarrely, 30 boxes of 'an expensive' anti-inflammatory.

The two cases are unrelated, but there does seem to be a worrying picture emerging of politics at the state level. In both Christie's and McDonnell's case, corruption and abuse of power seem to be a completely routine part of the job, where politicians see little wrong with taking bribes, bullying people, and acting illegally to further political objectives. Politics is a nasty game, but it should at least be played within legal boundaries. As both cases unfold, it seems to be getting worse and worse.

Not a good sign for the rest of the country.
