Now Hear This (Best of 2013): MS MR (NSFW)

It was this sensually menacing, noir-ish single that really made an impact. It was featured in several TV shows this past year including, appropriately, the 3rd season trailer for Game of Thrones.

And on we go, continuing to look back at some of the best music of the past year as a lead-up to the official Best Singles of 2013 list, which begins next week.

MS MR, which is pronounced "Mizz Mister," came out of the New York indie scene a couple of years ago and have had a pretty good run since. The duo, Lizzy Plapinger and producer-programmer Max Hershenow, initially made their mark through a clever promotional trick that involved using Tumblr to both release their music and provide accompanying images. Any act that goes through that kind of trouble to tie sight to sound right off the bat, you know what you're getting.

And MS MR's music is indeed cinematic.

They released two records this year, an EP back in February followed by a full-length album in May. While the band's debut track, Hurricane, gained quite a bit of alt-radio airplay, it was this sensually menacing, noir-ish single that really made an impact. It was featured in several TV shows this past year including, appropriately, the 3rd season trailer for Game of Thrones.

Here's Bones.
