One of the best stories of the year so far has been the story of Hazel Hammersley, the little girl suffering from cancer at L.A. Children's Hospital who wrote "Send Pizza" in the window of her hospital room last July and was quickly inundated with so many pizzas that her entire ward was able to have a party. The show of love and support came from average people, all of whom used the power of the internet to rally around someone who needed that love and support. It made you believe for a moment -- believe that in a fragmented culture that's endlessly pitted against itself along party lines and by petty grievances, we can still come together once in a while to do something good. And marvel at the result -- be made better by simply knowing that it exists.

Friday in San Francisco, the same thing is happening again only on a grand scale. You probably already know the details of what's going on, and if not, you can read all about it here.

I'm putting up only some of the pictures of "Batkid's" day fighting crime in San Francisco. It's the best way possible to end your week.
