Imitation Is The Sincerest Form Of Wow, You Suck
Today marked the launch of yet another conservative non-profit group designed to emulate the left. Today’s edition was Truth Revolt, a vehicle for Team Breitbart to separate the money of idiotic conservative millionaires from the trust funds of their layabout kids.
This particular group, filled with the usual gang of idiots, is about “the media.” Yes, I have a conflict of interest here because my day job is at the left’s pre-eminent media watchdog but still, I’d actually love it for the right to produce a decent one of these organizations.
Truth Revolt (the truth is revolting? they’re revolting against the truth?) is the third of these organizations on the right that I can think of. The original, sclerotic granddaddy is Accuracy In Media, which is now obsessed with Benghazi, followed by Media Research Center, which holds a giant gala each year so they can waste money on signs in Times Square and fancy mansions.
Previously, we saw the launch of the Washington Free Beacon, last seen deceptively editing comments from Harry Reid, but generally being a mighty ineffective copy of Center for American Progress’ Think Progress, one of the left’s most influential blogs.
That follows Heritage Foundation’s Foundry, which has almost no traction on the right.
There’s also Redstate, created as a clone of Daily Kos but which never made it and now survives on wingnut welfare from Regnery.
And the right has tried various wannabe clones of ActBlue, the progressive fundraising clearinghouse and so many “conservative MoveOns” I’ve lost count.
Conservatism is awash in mediocrity in the world of activism. They created this world of nonprofits in the first place. Heritage, MRC, etc. had a foothold while the left was relying on centrist organizations like Brookings, etc. It wasn’t until the left hit rock bottom, around the 2003-4 era, when they decided to get in the notion-building business.
And in almost no time, they leapt ahead of the right. Whether its Media Matters, Center for American Progress, Color of Change, MoveOn, etc. the right has just been spanked here. And the carbon copies the right has generated either just suck up conservative money or feed into the pre-existing conservative b.s. cycle where they only preach to the choir.
I hope their luck continues.
