Is the Mormon Church Changing its Position on Homosexuality?

The Mormon position on homosexuality: Still wrong, but heading in the right direction

It appears that the Mormon Church is at least evolving its views on homosexuality, launching a new website called ‘Mormons and Gays‘ (pic above) stating that “individuals do not choose to have such attractions”. An official statement from their site reads:

The experience of same-sex attraction is a complex reality for many people. The attraction itself is not a sin, but acting on it is. Even though individuals do not choose to have such attractions, they do choose how to respond to them. With love and understanding, the Church reaches out to all God’s children, including our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters.

While the church reiterates its position that acting on homosexuality is a sin, the outreach does mark a shift in its thinking, and it should be welcomed. The gay community won’t be celebrating this – but it is a sign that the organization is slowly moving into the 21st century.

The line of thinking is still completely bogus as it operates on the notion that there is a victim in a homosexual relationship. Conservative Christians have regularly compared homosexuality to pedophilia, asserting that while the urge may be natural, the action is immoral. Anyone who knows a gay couple understands this to be not only wrong, but obnoxiously offensive. Some of the most loving and successful couples I know are gay, and their relationships are incredibly positive. Sure there are abusive homosexual relationships, but you only have to switch on the television to be reminded of the destruction a heterosexual relationship can wreak on a couple (Chris Brown and Rihanna anyone?).
