The Irresponsible Opposition

I was a progressive who lived through the Bush years, so I understand the frustration of being out of power and seeing the leadership of the country go in what you perceive as the wrong direction. The problem is, when the right finds itself in this position it seems incapable of remaining tethered to reality.

That goes double when the President is Barack Obama.

It’s never just that Obama is doing something wrong. Nope, he’s doing so in service of international communism. Every president for the last 20+ years has appointed czars of some sort. Under Obama? Well they’re just evidence of a mad power grab. Obama’s support of a return to Bush-era taxes for the highest earners (including keeping the cuts for the middle class!) is presented as evidence of the fulfillment of some sort of Marxist dream.

It’s ludicrous.

And it just gets worse, whether its fearmongering about drones or inventing bizarre conspiracies about the Muslim infiltration of our government. And so many on the right refuse to say “hey, wait a minute.” Because God forbid you let decency get in the way of “the team.” Sick!

Also, Farris, if you hate tax increases so much, shouldn’t you be voting for Obama?

  • Zython

Yep, the right is so bent on economic failure, they went out and tried to singlehandedly make the chicken an extinct species yesterday.

We we said “keep fucking that chicken”, we didn’t mean it literally.

  • M2

“The company is expected to be profitable when it reports its quarterly earnings this week, even though it is suffering losses in Europe and growing slower than its rivals in the U.S. Through June, the automaker has sold a little more than 1.3 million vehicles in the U.S., a 4 percent gain in a period when the industry has grown sales 15 percent.”

Pray and hope those profits Obama hates because of socialism or something stop before November, right?

  • M2

Never let it be said the right isn’t cheering for failure. Jesus, fucking christ. They’re wet with glee,

    • Plunket

Never let it be said the right isn’t cheering for failure. Jesus, fucking christ. They’re wet with glee,

Calling bullshit on this president’s uncomfortable relationship with the truth when it comes to his fantasies of economic accomplishment isn’t cheering for failure, M2. It’s understandable if you’re still embarrassed by the Left’s god-awful display of cheering disaster with the daily Iraq and Afghanistan body counts and it’s uncontained delight with the financial meltdown just before the November ’08 national election. Understandable, but it in no way excuses your false charge that you can’t back up beyond mere Harry Reid-like speculation.

      • M2

Yes, the side most vehemently against the war was also cheering for death. Please. If the right couldn’t use the death of soldiers (and civilians in the case of 9/11) to further their political goals none of you would achieve an erection ever again.

False charge? Fuck no. Your guys say it out load and proud you want failure. The fuck are you kidding?

    • SaveFarris

Yep, the right is so bent on economic failure, they went out and tried to singlehandedly make the chicken an extinct species yesterday.

Republicans want as many people working, earning, and living the American Dream as possible. It’s Democratics (and specifically Obama) are actively encouraging decreased economic activity. In the name of “fairness”…

“Yep, the right is so bent on economic failure, they went out and tried to singlehandedly make the chicken an extinct species yesterday.”

I think you mean the homophobic scarey cats are trying to make themselves extinct. Unfortunately, evolution is a slow process. But we will get there.

“we’re due for an Obama Boom.”

    –Oliver Willis 8/12/2009

    Boom!

After recovering to become the world’s largest seller of automobiles last year, General Motors is once again struggling to maintain its top position in the auto industry.

On Sunday, GM abruptly fired its top marketing chief, the latest in a flurry of management shake-ups. During the first half of this year, GM lost its ranking as the top automaker to Toyota and its stock has fallen 41 percent since the company’s 2010 post-bankruptcy offering price.

  • M2

    Holy shit, czars!!!!

You’ve got to be kidding. Is this 2009?

  • SaveFarris

Every president for the last 20+ years has appointed czars of some sort.

Oliver just LOVES to ignore matters of degree. I guess since some Republican once appointed a Czar, that means Obama can appoint 42! Never mind that most Republican’s czars still went through the Senate confirmation process while Obama’s czars were apointed SPECIFICALLY to avoid Senate confirmation. That fact doesn’t even cross Oliver’s massive cortex.

. Obama’s support of a return to Bush-era taxes for the highest earners (including keeping the cuts for the middle class!)

IF ONLY Obama was supporting a return to Bush-era taxes. Oliver is once again ignoring that Obama’s tax plan includes the following features that weren’t a feature of Clintonomics:
–Increase of 4% on Capital gains (part of Obamacare)
–Another increase of 5% (fiscal cliff)
–40% tax on “Cadillac” health plans (Obamacare)
–Increase of 3.8% in Payroll tax (Obamacare)
–Another increase of 2% (fiscal cliff)
    –non-indexing of AMT

As a Nobel-Prize winning economist once said: “You don’t raise taxes in the middle of a recession.” But that’s EXACTLY what Obama’s planning.

Also, it’s hillarious that you’re calling out Conservatives for being “Irresponsible” the day after #HarryReidIsAPedarist.

    • db

      Dennis,

More of your silly word games.

      “Obama can appoint 42!”

I recall that Fox “News” announced that President Obama appointed Czars. I recall that Glenn Beck complained voiciferously that President Obama appointed Czars. You are up in arms that President Obama appointed Czars.

But I do not recall President Obama appointing any Czars.

So as long as you define what a Czar is; President Obama could have appointed 42 or 420. It’s just a silly word game.

BTW, I seem to recall the Republicans were quite high on deficit reduction just recently. So why are you so opposed to “revenue enhancers”? Defunding Planned Parenthood not enough savings for you?

Of course if Romnay would pay ANY taxes it would be a help.

      • SaveFarris

        First of all, who’s Dennis?

But I do not recall President Obama appointing any Czars.

        Norm Eisen: Ethics Czar
        Robert Bauer: Ethics Czar II
Gil Kerlikowske: Drug Czar (Senate approved)
        Paul Volker: Economics Czar
        Melissa Hathaway: Cyber Security Czar
Howard Schmidt: Cyber Security Czar II
        Lyne Rosenthal: Domestic Violence Czar
Herbert Allison: TARP Czar (Senate Approved)
        Steve Ratner: Auto Czar
        Rom Bloom: Auto Czar II
        Ed Montgomery: Auto Worker Czar
        Jeff Crowley: AIDS Czar
        Grant Colfax: AIDS Czar II
        John Goss: Asian Carp Czar
        Richard Holbrooke: Afghanistan Czar
        Alan Bersin: Border Czar
        Carol Browner: Global Warming Czar
        Todd Stern: Climate Czar
        Victoria Espinel: Copyright Czar
        Kenneth Fineberg: CEO Pay Czar
        Elizabeth Warren: Consumer Czar
        George Mitchell: Middle East Czar
        Ron Bloom: Manufacturing Czar
        Dennis Ross: Iran Czar
Dennis Blair: Intelligence Czar (Senate Approved)
        Vivek Kundra: Information Czar
        Cameron Davis: Great Lakes Czar
        Josh DuBouis: Faith Based Czar
        Nancy DeParle: Health Czar
        Van Jones: Green Jobs Czar
        Daniel Fried: Guantanamo Czar
        David Blumenthal: Health IT Czar
Cass Sunstein: Reglatory Czar (Senate Approved)
Jeff Zients: Performance Czar (Senate Approved)
Aneesh Chopra: Tech Czar (Senate Approved)
        Earl Devaney: Stimulus Czar
John Holdren: Science Czar (Senate Approved)
        Adolfo Carrion: Urban Affairs Czar
        John Brennan: Terrorism Czar
Douglas Lute: War Czar (Senate Approved)
Ashton Carter: Weapons Czar (Senate Approved)
        Gary Samore: WMD Czar

I’d link to all of them, but Oliver’d have me stuck in moderation hell till Medicare was solvent.

BTW, I seem to recall the Republicans were quite high on deficit reduction just recently. So why are you so opposed to “revenue enhancers”?

Lowering tax rates increases revenues, as was shown in the previous link. (So long as we stay on this side of the Laffer Curve)

Of course if Romnay[sp] would pay ANY taxes it would be a help.

If you’ve got proof Romney didn’t pay what was legally required of him, fess up. Otherwise, you’re making baseless accusastions without any proof, making you no better than Jerry Sandusky’s co-conspirator Harry Reid. (Of course, if you HAD said proof, that means you’ve been digging around in the IRS’s internal documents, which makes you guilty of about 18 different felonies. Congrats!!)

A Democrat says the resurgence of the Tea Party is a problem for the Republicans! That clinches it for me !!
These are my favorite threads – when Oliver pretends he understands “what’s wrong with conservatives” and all you numbskulls jump on board the Dumbwagon …

And so many on the right refuse to say “hey, wait a minute.”
      a) They are not being asked, and then refusing to answer
      c) People are entitled to their questions, and who cares ?
      b) They have absolutely no good reason to piss those people off (If you can think of one – and that goes for all you lefties – let me know)

      • M2

These are my favorite threads – when Oliver pretends he understands “what’s wrong with conservatives” and all you numbskulls jump on board the Dumbwagon …Justy

Ah yes, heading to a liberal blogger’s site and finding likeminded liberals. Liberals that agree on many issues, even. Some fucking Sherlock Holmes you are.

        A. Crazy is the new norm on the right
        C. And we’re entitled to point and laugh at their crazy questions and mock their seriousness as a public servant.
        B. They’re idiots if we’re speaking of the same they. If you’re unsure, if you include yourself in that group, then yes. Idiots.

        • Justanotherrighty

More like Diogenes , M2 , looking for an honest man … Never gonna find one honest lefty in here, though. They tow the line. BOY, do they tow the line !
          a) Crazy has always existed on both ends of the political spectrum.
          b) It is not up to the opposing party to demand that the opposition clean house.
          c) If you want crazy questions and mockable seriousness, get yourself over to DemocracyNow. They’re your idiots …

          • M2

Can’t find an honest lefty? Hilarious. This from a man who ran instead of admitting his party’s fans and mouthpieces inspired a wee touch of gun violence recently. Yeah, you’re interested in the truth. Sure.

            A. Yours shoots people. Dead. need those links again?
            B. Sadly you’re unable to police yourselves.
            C. I get all the crazy I can stand form you and your buds here. All full, thanks.

          • Justanotherrighty

            A. Yours shoots people. Dead. need those links again?
Yours were blowing people up, until they started doing hard time for it. Now they teach college and have cocktail parties for Presidential candidates
            B. Sadly you’re unable to police yourselves.
Pathetically, you’re unwilling to police yourselves.
            C. I get all the crazy I can stand from you and your buds here. All full, thanks.
And we’re so dangerous, right? Besides which, I was referring to the crazies on the Left – but you think there aren’t any, right?
Maybe in a year or two you’ll read The Righteous Mind and catch up with the rest of the reading public…

          • M2

Yes, we know Justy. Before Obama was born he was in collusion with the Weather Underground in a grand conspiracy to one day have dinner parties with Ronald Reagan’s friends.

We’re not the side talking seceding from the United States or wondering if the President was born in Kenya in congress. You’re unwilling to accept reality let alone police yourselves. Only a handful of Republicans had the sack to even criticize the nuts and most of them got shit for for doing so from the crazy wing of your party. The crazy wing being 90% of your party, it seems.

When you catch up with reading articles I’ve sent you about the crazies on the right you called me a liar over, I will get back to you. I know there are crazies on the left, but I am man enough to admit it. I don’t call people liars and run like a little bitch from my words.

          • Zython

Maybe in a year or two you’ll read The Righteous Mind and catch up with the rest of the reading public…

And you should try reading Death of a Salesman. I think you’ll indentify with it.

          • Justanotherrighty

Zython, I read Death Of A Salesman before you were born. As I keep telling you, stop being a jerk, and grow up just a little …

I know there are crazies on the left, but I am man enough to admit it.
Yeah, sure you did , but you didn’t do it here, so it doesn’t count. And I already said there were crazies on both ends of the political spectrum, which you ignored …
So stop pretending you’re overflowing with integrity – you’re a wimp that would sell his sell for a free subscription to Nation magazine …

          • M2

I have enough integrity to apologize if I called someone a fucking liar and was wrong. How you doing in that department?

Oh, and here’s your latest not radical choice for the US senate with Glenn Beck. Genius.

The lunatic fringe of their party is now the norm. A few like Boehner and McCain did the right thing by calling Bachman out, but then you’ve got Newt Gingrich defending her for “just asking questions.”

Mentally unstable on a whole host of issues, too.
