Cowardice Isn’t The NRA’s Fault

The NRA is a gang of very strange, conspiracy-theory spewing, racist, bigoted know-nothings who don’t give a damn about the safety of their fellow citizens. They would rather the streets be flooded with all manner of weapons rather than ever allow a single law or regulation that would govern the world of guns.

But they aren’t the real problem.

In the case of the NRA, they’re going to do what they’re going to do. They’ve been given a free hand to be horrible and take the opportunity to do so at every turn.

The problem is politicians of both parties who are so terrified of the gun lobby (never mind it’s over exaggerated power) that they are unwilling to do anything remotely sensible about guns in America.

Democrats and Republicans are simply terrified to anger what boils down to a few overly enthusiastic guys who get together to ogle guns and their accessories like a pin-up centerfold.

It is the politicans, who have been elected to lead, who are deserving of our contempt for their failure. They are terrified to even discuss gun legislation, let alone introduce it in either the House or Senate for debate. We have leaders — all the way up to President Obama — who just won’t do anything about guns because they view the political cost as more important than the lives lost.

None of this is the NRA’s fault. The NRA is going to do what the NRA does. It is hard to blame them for our leaders inability to see them for the paper tiger they are. It isn’t the NRA’s fault when our leaders can’t see massacre after massacre as a reason to do something sensible.

The NRA can lie and fear-monger with the best of them. But they aren’t the people who are in office. They’re an outside actor, yelling “jump!”

And our leaders meekly ask in response: “How high?”

    Conservative or Liberal,
    Democratic or Republican,
    Black or White,
    Christian or Athiest,
    Chick-Fil-A or Liberache’s Cafe,
    Carnivore or Herbivore,
    Keystone Pipeline or $4/gallon gas,

… I think we can all agree on one thing: those Chec Republic galoshes looked absolutely ridiculous.

“Who invited party-pooper Romney?” asked the Daily Mail.

“Nowhere Man” declared the more reserved Times of London … .”

“These are internal matters that would be well dealt with under our own democratic system,” he said. “There is a feeling, and I’m sure it applies in the United States, that … families can quarrel bitterly in private, but should anyone from the outside have a go, the family is united. In other words: ‘Mind your own business.’”

    Keep it up!!

    ObamaBoom!

The decline in American production continued in the second quarter, according to the new release from the Bureau of Economic Analysis. The Q2 GDP growth rate (annualized) was a meager 1.5%, down from 1.9% in the first quarter and 3.0% in 2011Q4:

The GOP solution? Halt regulation because it’s killing job growth in the Randian masturbatory fantasies and name the seas after St. Ronnie.

Hey, but your little debt ceiling stunt only cost us one billion dollars proving again who is really fiscally responsible in DC.

Wow, why are you going all the way back to 2004 to make a point? Just wondering.

But I wouldn’t worry if I were you. After all, according to Obama “the private sector is doing fine.”

HA!!! Forget a minor little thing that happened under President Bush’s watch Farris?

That’s a hilariously ridiculous comparison/attack, even for you. Where did it originate?

“The president undoubtedly hoped the reckoning would come sometime after 2008. It arrived 18 months early. As many as 1.7 million Americans are expected to lose their homes in the months ahead. For many, this will mean the beginning of a downward spiral into poverty.”

“the private sector is doing fine.”

Corporate profits at all-time high. You were saying?

But hey, I’m sure a government shutdown over birth control will solve everything.

    Guys,

Phlunk’s, “Instead of acting butt-hurt that Obama actual words were not the words he meant to say”.

Remember when we discussed the differing views of reality a few weeks ago? Jon Stewart does his standard excellent job on the subject.

    • Plunket

dwee-bee, remember when we discussed whining?

Obama and you guys are whining.

He’s an anti-business socialist who is dead serious that he wants to see massive economic redistribution. You guys are feel the same way for the most part. Both Obama and you guys are too afraid to come out and say that in words.

Except Obama just did. And now he wants to act like it was a mistake, like he was misquoted, like he was taken out of context. Waaaaah!

Seriously, the wimpiness with which you’re backtracking on this is almost as pathetic as what Obama said. That’s what Bob Cesca is saying. That’s why people hate liberals. Bob Cesca’s question is being answered here in this very thread by you guys.

      • M2

        He’s an anti-business socialist …

Oh, and talk about Panic on the Streets of London! Mitt really won over the anglo-saxons across the pond. Can we expect the same deft hand at foreign relations Mitt displayed today?

Bob Cesca asks “Why do people hate liberals?”

    M2 answers him.

  • Plunket

Maybe you could donate your iPad to him, M2, whaddya think, instead of using his agony as a cheap opportunity to make a really stupid political point.

    • M2

Yeah, how horrible it would be if the NRA did something positive with their tons of money, oh but these folks don’t have insurance so fuck these lazy shit bags. Sorry, I forgot the GOP’s stance on Americans and healthcare.

Why are you and Farris so jealous I have an iPad? Angry that I actually read articles like the Cesca one you only read the title of?

      • Plunket

I read the whole thing, M2. Thought it was a pretty decent article that made me wondering why a-holes like you don’t just admit that you like being a-holes and that you’re proud being an a-hole liberal. Instead of acting butt-hurt that Obama actual words were not the words he meant to say or the ones you wished he would’ve said, why don’t you just admit that you wish he were more of a socialist and you were glad he said something more socialist and that if our country was more socialistic, you were certain it would be a better country? You can’t do that because you can’t be honest with yourself because you’re afraid you’ll get painted into a corner if you were honest about it. So you live in this constant state of denial and you wonder why you can never get your point across effectively.

His feints toward open-mindedness are transparently phony, he mistakes his opinion for common sense, and he’s preachy……. “everyone would agree with us if they weren’t all so stupid” attitude of the contemporary progressive movement.

I mean, Pareene has you, db, Zython, Oily, el and C+P all pegged to a T. There was actually some decent stuff in that article.

We’re not at all jealous that you have an iPad. It’s just whatever it is you do that gives you the wherewithal to make that kind of a purchase, you didn’t do that, somebody else did, someone who doesn’t have an iPad. You should give that iPad to whoever it was that did it instead of you selfishly reaping the benefits. Pay yor fair share, M2.

        • M2

Wow, you’ve taken your inability to read and your dimestore psychology and brought them together for one hilarious post. Thanks.

And I’ve been working on my two feet since I was 14 but I hear from right wingers all the time how I am lazy and want a government handout and perform abortions between lines of cocaine. You guys always say you own hard work and discipline, but like caring about the military, it’s all lip-service. Look at your work here.

Liberals just don’t want to live in a country where a fellow citizen is shot in watching movie and, if he wakes up from his coma, he’s in debt to the tune of 2 million dollars.

What assholes we are. Zython, Db, Oily – shame on you fucks.

Here’s Romney’s latest ad NOT taking the president out of context. Again. Can’t wait for the breathless denial.

          Ann Romney –

“Well, you know, I guess we better unzip him and let the real Mitt Romney out because he is not!”

          Does context matter?

NRA’s track record in defeating candidates suggest its’ power is not “over exaggerated.

Equally, with this Supreme Court, I doubt that meaningful legislation would stand up.

Best idea I’ve heard: Require liability insurance for owning a gun. Just like automobiles, coverage if someone is injured with yours.
