By Ben Cohen: Here's Tom Brokaw gushing about Rick Santorum's 'tenacity' in the Presidential campaign:

He's like a character in a Bruce Willis movie. He just knows how to stay alive. He's running through the jungle, fighting back, shooting from the hip, takes a lot of hits, stays angry the entire time, and he is giving a voice to a lot of people out there whose lives have been completely upended.

This Chris Matthews-esque analysis of Santorum's campaign (ie. devoid of anything substantive) is what is wrong with the main stream media. As Chez Pazienza writes:

Instead of parsing the policies and views of a man running for President of the United States and the way they could affect each and every one of us, Brokaw can only sit back and marvel at Santorum's supposedly ferocious tenacity.

This is why no one with a mildly functional brain gives a shit about anything the TV news networks have to say about politics anymore.

And it's going to get worse. When one of the GOP clowns makes it through, the media has one job - get higher ratings by making it a two horse race. No matter how pathetic the Republican candidate is, or how insane their policies are, you can expect the pundits to start focusing on the superficial (did Romney's answer seem Presidential? Was Obama's shirt pro-American? etc etc). This makes it an image contest, not a political one, and therefore drives ratings. After all, comparing a politician to Bruce Willis is a lot sexier that talking about his stance on illegal immigration.

In the industry, Tom Brokaw is regarded as a serious figure. He clearly isn't, and he seems determined to stupify the election as quickly as possible. At 72 years old, one would think Brokaw might be tired of this stuff. Sadly, it seems he isn't.
