Matt Latimer on the perplexing decision made by Fox to parade hapless GOP presidential contenders on a live debate show:
Ironically for a network accused of right-wing bias, Fox may have done the Republican Party a monumental disservice. In the midst of one of the Obama administration’s greatest achievements—the killing of Osama bin Laden—the network made the Republican presidential primary look like a low-budget Star Trek convention, where only the guy who played Dr. McCoy and a bunch of extras bothered to show up.
Without Donald Trump, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee or Sarah Palin participating, they may as well have done a feature on Trump's hair piece. It probably would have been more interesting and at least added another dimension to Republican politics (there's only so long you can listen to the all curing free market drivel passed off as serious policy debate).
I guess it makes the Democrat's job that much easier for 2012, but one would hope that some day a serious opposition force would emerge and ask intelligent questions of power rather than appeal to the worst elements of American society.
