A remarkable story in the Independent on a model eco town in Britain:
In under two years, Todmorden has transformed the way it produces its
food and the way residents think about the environment. Compared with
18 months ago, a third more townspeople now grow their own veg; almost
seven in 10 now buy local produce regularly, and 15 times as many
people are keeping chickens.
Is this a glimpse of the future? Rather than come up with weird technological solutions (like growing meat in incubators), reverting to a localized food economy would save money, time and help foster a sense of community. Sounds like a good deal to me.
